Emetophobia and Hypnosis
Many people suffer from emetophobia, but this phobia is seldom mentioned or discussed. This phobia is the fear of vomit. People afflicted with serious emetophobia will do anything it takes to avoid throwing up or seeing vomit. Although emetophobics typically cope by avoiding their fear, it can be completely eliminated with therapies such as Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
Emetophobia is a very common phobia with far ranging consequences for its sufferers. Some people refuse to eat out or with other people out of fear of getting food poisoning. Expectant women with emetophobia are often completely terrified of getting morning sickness. Emetophobia also makes it hard for parents to raise their newborns or tend to their small kids if they get ill.
Emetophobia can affect a person's willingness and ability to go on trips. An individual might dread the thought of going to another country and catching an illness. Many emetophobia sufferers avoid public places because they fear falling ill or even witnessing another person getting sick. The fear also interferes with one's capacity to work in certain fields, such as nursing and hospital care.
Emetophobia is often caused by childhood illnesses. Emetophobics may remember the feeling of being ill and wish to avoid it at all costs. They may also fear illness because they link it with a lack of physical control. This phobia affects many people of every age.
The phobia can lead to other anxiety disorders and phobias. Many people develop agoraphobia, a fear of unknown places which can drive a person to become a "shut-in." People with emetophobia may also possess a great fear of germs. What starts as the fear of vomit can quickly grow into a number of issues stemming from the original fear.
Some people attempt to deal with their phobia by avoiding it whenever possible, but the phobia can be cured with techniques ranging from counseling to medication. However, there are a few challenges associated with curing emetophobia. Over time, the phobia becomes strongly associated with strong negative imagery in the unconscious. The feeling is so deeply set that it cannot be regulated by willpower or conscious effort alone. Sufferers may admit that their fear is overblown, but continue to feel powerless to get help for their phobia.
Hypnosis therapy is an excellent tool for curing phobias because it can dissociate a fear from negative stimuli within the unconscious mind. Hypnosis is a form of non-invasive, safe therapy that provides a permanent phobia cure.
Hypnotherapy treatments often take the form of a program composed of many, easy-to-follow sessions. A thorough program begins with relaxation therapy. This has a calming effect and helps make the mind more open to hypnosis. When a person is relaxed and tension-free, hypnosis directs the unconscious mind into adopting a new, phobia-free line of thinking.
Ericksonian hypnosis works well for indepedent thinkers, such as most emetophobia sufferers who find it important to have control over their their health and fitness. It works by using indirect suggestions integrate in stories, metaphors, and dialogues. It differs from traditional hypnotherapy techniques, which utilize direct post-hypnotic suggestions to treat individual phobias. These conventional techniques may fail because most people question what they are told and resist direct suggestions. These problems can be circumvented using Ericksonian hypnosis therapy.
Because emetophobia is often accompanied by other phobias such as germophobia and agoraphobia, it is important for a good treatment program to work for all these issues. Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques have an advantage over traditional hypnotherapy programs because they aren't specific to one phobia; they can be used to treat any phobia, or even numerous phobias. Additionally, more users find success with the combined program because it includes a range of techniques to suit any individual.
Phobia sufferers are often astonished at the ease with which they achieve results through hypnosis. It has allowed many people rapidly overcome their phobias and it is a popular form of phobia treatment. The techniques found in Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and NLP are effective treatments for many anxiety disorders and phobias. They are the key to success for helping many people overcome their phobias and feel secure and in charge.
